A few thoughts on mass consciousness

Recently, I was part of the crowd of around 43,000 people at Adelaide Oval watching the football.

Going to the football can be a fun activity, especially when your team wins. It’s also an experience of being immersed in mass consciousness. Something to keep in mind the next time you go.

The game I attended played out in two distinct halves. The first half was a tightly fought competition between two teams with similar playing styles. The scores at the half time break were tied at 20 points each.

It was a home game for the Adelaide Crows, so, like me, most of the crowd were Adelaide supporters. During the first half, there was a palpable feeling of frustration and disappointment that was hard to ignore.

In the third quarter, the Adelaide Crows hit the front. A wave of excitement swept through the crowd. I felt myself being caught up in the excitement. And, when Eddie Betts kicked a goal from an unbelievable angle, the crowd exploded. Nearly everyone in the stadium was on their feet cheering — including me.

Mass consciousness is our default level of awareness when we are born into this dimension. It holds our common reality in place. It facilitates common values and common views. It’s what holds family groups, clans, tribes, political parties, sporting clubs, and societies together.
