The news media and our social media feeds are full of the horrors of what’s going on in Israel and Gaza. The articles might be a change from the coverage of what’s happening in Ukraine but it’s essentially the same story: unarmed civilians being killed in a war they didn’t ask for.

We need to witness this. The victims need to know we know what’s happening, but we don’t need to let it overwhelm us. In other words, we need to protect ourselves from the media overload of gory images of death and destruction.

Yes, some of it is propaganda, some of it is disinformation, but a lot of it has been recorded by citizen journalists on the receiving end. What’s happening on the ground needs to be recorded but we don’t need to spend every waking hour watching it or reading about it.

It’s okay to tune it out for a while, for days if you have to.
