As we fight to contain the spread of the virus and treat the infected, we’re learning an important lesson on relative value. It seems we have a lot of things back to front.
Presidents and Prime Ministers like to think they’re important, but they’ve just discovered they’re nowhere near as important as they’d like us to believe.
In Australia, the Chief Medical Officer and his team of advisors are who we’re listening to at the moment. Those listening include our Prime Minister. At least he’s doing a better job of listening and following advice than the man in the Oval Office, who still thinks it’s all about him.
Outside the national leadership group, a range of people working in a variety of essential services have found themselves in the spotlight. Some for the first time.
Everyone working in the health sector, whether on the front line or in a supporting role, has become a hero. We’re talking real heroes here, not pseudo heroes like sports stars or celebrities. We’re talking people risking their lives to help others.
